After helping Alice Marie Johnson get clemency for her prison sentence, Kim Kardashian-West appears to be ready to help out another former inmate in need.
Matthew Charles was recently released from prison after serving 20 of his 35-year sentence. But even as a free man, Matthew was still facing some difficulties stemming from his incarceration.
According to CMT senior reporter, Tim Hardiman, who also happens to be Matthew’s friend, the former inmate applied for residency at an apartment complex in Nashville last Tuesday (March 5). On Thursday (March 7), his application was denied because of (1) his felony record, and (2) his poor credit score.
Matthew was recently released from prison after serving 22 years – and has not been able to build a credit rating for himself. And apparently, he’s not the only one who encounters this problem, as many reformed offenders have similar things working against them in their efforts to find affordable housing.
According to ET, when the Tim shared the rejection letter on Instagram, another reporter, The Tennessean’s Natalie Neysa Alund, got in touch with them about running a story.
Kim Kardashian reportedly came across the story, which appear to have prompted her to reach out and offer her help – by generously offering to pay for Matthew’s rent for five years and even contact property owners as a reference.
“When I told [Matthew] Charles about Kim’s generous gift he was overwhelmed! He was truly humbled that Kim was willing to lift that burden from him. Charles told me Kim’s generosity will allow him to save enough money to eventually put a down payment on his first house. Kim has changed his life!” Tim shared.
Matthew also shared his gratitude to the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star on Facebook.
“I just received the most wonderful news tonight that I just had to share with everyone. Kim Kardashian-West, through Tracy, said they heard about my situation. Was moved and has decided to help me. And to me in an unbelievable way. Kim did not do this for attention or publicity, but I had to share it, because it’s to good not to, and my heart is about to burst with happiness, that I wish you to rejoice in this news with me. And many of your responses about the outcome of my dilemma prophesied it.
GOD IS GOOD!!!. WHAT THE DEVIL MEANT FOR BAD, GOD REVERSED AGAIN, FOR MY GOOD.
**THANK YOU KIM KARDISHIAN-WEST and TRACY FOR THE LOVE SHOWN TO ME WHEN I WAS LOCKED UP. AND NOW THAT I’M FREE.. MY HEART IS ENLARGED. **”
Kim has yet to comment on the matter.
