Country music’s biggest names came together Wednesday (June 9) night to celebrate the best in the genre.
Hosted by Kelsea Ballerini and Kane Brown, the 2021 CMT Music Awards was a fun-filled evening of big wins and amazing performances. Lady A, Carly Pearce and Lindsay Ell kicked things off with “Like a Lady” while H.E.R. made her country music awards performance debut alongside Chris Stapleton for their rendition of “Hold On.” Among the evening’s other performers were Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Mickey Guyton, Luke Bryan, and more who hit the stage with powerful performances.
Carrie Underwood extends her reign as the CMT Awards’ most awarded performer, taking home her 23rd CMT Music Awards trophy. The win also marks John Legend’s first-ever CMT Music Award, which Carrie gave him a sweet shoutout for in her acceptance speech.
“John legend, thank you for sending me this incredible song and agreeing to sing with me on it and making this incredible video that I am so proud of, and congratulations on what I think is your first CMT Award!” she said in part as she thanked those who worked on the music video. “God bless you guys. Thank you so much! Thank you, fans! Thank you, CMT!”
Taylor Swift took home the award for Best Family Feature for her song and music video for “The Best Day (Taylor’s Version).” While she wasn’t at the event, she celebrated the win by retweeting the clip of announcement, along with a sweet shoutout for her mom: “I LOVE YOU MOM.
