Abigail Breslin, known for her role in Little Miss Sunshine, recently took to social media to voice her support for Kesha, while seemingly throwing shade at Katy Perry. The 28-year-old actress expressed her thoughts on Twitter, sharing her views on working with known abusers in the music industry and highlighting her admiration for Kesha.

“I’m just saying… working with known abusers in any industry just contributes to the narrative that men can do abhorrent sh-t and get away with it,” Abigail wrote. She added, “On another note, I love @KeshaRose and she gave one of the best shows I’ve ever been to last year. <3 stream Kesha!”

Although Abigail didn’t explicitly name Katy Perry or Dr. Luke, the context was clear. The duo’s recent collaboration on Katy’s upcoming song “Woman’s World” and album 143 has ignited controversy. Dr. Luke has faced serious allegations of abuse from Kesha, which he has denied, leading to a protracted legal battle that ended in 2023.

Kesha, who recently released her new song “Joyride” independently of Dr. Luke’s label, has garnered support from many in light of her tumultuous past with the producer. Meanwhile, Katy Perry, who had distanced herself from Dr. Luke since her 2013 album Prism, is now working with him again for her 2024 album.

In a 2017 deposition, Katy Perry expressed her desire to remain neutral, stating, “I want to stay out of it because I know them both and I empathize with both of them and obviously it’s a horrible situation for both of them. And the only two people that know what really went on are those two people.”

Abigail’s comments drew backlash from some of Katy Perry’s fans, prompting her to respond. “omggggg guys really…? I didn’t say anything awful, everyone calm down. I said I don’t support abusers. Crucify me,” she wrote. “And I also never said I have an amazing music career. God… calm down. Also, I’ve been a long time advocate against SA and DV so I’m not gonna stop speaking out about it regardless of how many of you tell me I’m worthless and disgusting and awful.”

She continued, addressing the criticism head-on, “alright. goodnight everybody. I’m not gonna stop speaking out against abuse. I never said a negative thing about your fave. Please relax. I’m allowed to have a perspective. You’re allowed to roast my career and treat me horribly but idk why you would. I stand by what I said. gn.”

The public dispute has spotlighted the ongoing debates surrounding Dr. Luke and Kesha’s past legal battles. Kesha and Dr. Luke reached a mutual agreement to settle their long-running standoff in 2023, but the scars of the conflict remain visible in the music industry and among fans.
