With the latest Spider-Man movie coming up in December and rumors swirling of past Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield joining present Spider-Man Tom Holland in the film, it’s no surprise that all eyes are on the three talented stars.

Though Andrew, like Tobey and Tom, has consistently not revealed that such a thing will be happening in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, he has opened up about his experience portraying the webbed superhero.

Andrew portrayed Peter Parker from 2012 to 2014 in the two installments of Sony;s The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Now, he is getting candid about his time as Spidey.

The 38-year-old actor revealed in a new interview with the Guardian that his Spider-Man experience was “heartbreaking.” He shared:

“I went from being a naive boy to growing up [really fast]. How could I ever imagine that it was going to be a pure experience?”

He went on to say that there were “millions of dollars at stake and that’s what guides the ship. It was a big awakening and it hurt.” He talked about his Comic-Con experience when he was revealed as the new Spider-Man at the time:

“Comic-Con in San Diego is full of grown men and women still in touch with that pure thing the character meant to them. [But] you add in market forces and test groups and suddenly the focus is less on the soul of it and more on ensuring we make as much money as possible, and I found that–find that–heartbreaking in all matters of the culture.”

Andrew concluded by saying:

“Money is the thing that has corrupted all of us and led to the terrible ecological collapse that we are all about to die under.”

Back in September, a quote of Andrew’s went viral, where he addressed the rumors of an appearance in the new Spidey film. He said:

“I understand why people are freaking out about the concept of that because I’m a fan as well. You can’t help but imagine scenes and moments of ‘Oh, my God, how f**king cool would it be if they did that?

But it’s important for me to say on the record that this is not something I’m aware I am involved in.

But I know I’m not going to be able to say anything that will convince anyone that I don’t know what’s happening. No matter what I say, I’m f*cked. It’s either going to be really disappointing for people or it’s going to be really exciting.”

Fans are still hoping to see all three versions of Peter Parker / Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home next month!
