Armie Hammer is opening up about the latest chapter in his life as he prepares to celebrate his 38th birthday. The actor, best known for his roles in films like The Social Network and Call Me by Your Name, revealed in a candid video that he’s returning to Los Angeles after spending several years living in the Cayman Islands. However, the move comes with significant changes, including selling his beloved truck due to the skyrocketing cost of gas.

Armie, who hasn’t been active in Hollywood since 2021, faced a massive public scandal after multiple partners accused him of cannibalism and sexual assault. Though he was not charged with any crimes and continues to deny all criminal allegations, the fallout from the accusations has dramatically affected his career and personal life. As he tries to rebuild, Armie is making some tough decisions, one of which involves parting ways with his truck, a vehicle that holds a lot of sentimental value for him.

In the video, filmed in the parking lot of CarMax, Armie reminisces about his truck and the memories they’ve shared. “So I’ve been back in L.A. for a couple of weeks now. This is my truck,” he begins, pointing to the vehicle behind him. “I bought this for myself in 2017 as a Christmas gift for myself. I have loved this truck intensely and taken it camping and across the country multiple times and on long road trips.” With a touch of nostalgia in his voice, he adds, “I’ve taken it on one last road trip… to CarMax.”

While making it clear that the video isn’t an advertisement for CarMax, Armie explains the financial reality behind his decision. “Since being back in L.A., I have put about $400 or $500 worth of gas in it and I can’t afford it. I can’t afford the gas anymore,” he admits. For Armie, the truck isn’t just a mode of transportation; it’s been a part of some of his most cherished moments, including bringing his children home from the hospital. “This truck, it took the kids home from the hospital and all that stuff. Amazing trips, but you know what, that’s okay.”

Despite the bittersweet farewell to his truck, Armie is looking forward to new beginnings. He reveals that he’s already found a replacement vehicle—a tiny, hybrid car that’s much more economical. “I’ve got a new car. It’s tiny. It’s a hybrid. I’m probably going to put about 10 bucks of gas in it a month and this is it,” he says with a sense of optimism.

As he prepares to start this new chapter in Los Angeles, Armie reflects on the symbolic nature of these changes. “Here’s to new beginnings. It’s my birthday tomorrow. So, August 28, I will be starting my birthday in a new car, in a new apartment, in a new life in Los Angeles,” he shares, signaling his intention to move forward despite the challenges he’s faced.

In a moment of gratitude, Armie speaks directly to his truck, expressing his appreciation for all the journeys they’ve shared. “Thank you very much. You have gotten me a long way and I appreciate it all. I hope you take as good of care of the next person,” he says, bidding farewell to the vehicle that’s been with him through thick and thin.

As the video comes to a close, Armie adds a bit of humor to the situation, saying, “I just keep telling myself that parking is going to be easier and gas is going to be cheaper.”
