Brian Austin Green is opening up about his experiences as a father, particularly in raising his 21-year-old son, Kassius, who is gay. The 50-year-old actor and former Beverly Hills, 90210 star joined Lance Bass on his podcast, “Frosted Tips With Lance Bass,” for an honest conversation about parenthood and acceptance.

Brian shared that initially, raising his “out and gay and proud” son was a challenge for him. He candidly admitted, “It has been a challenge. Honestly, it was unknown for me.” However, he also expressed his curiosity and willingness to learn about his son’s experiences, saying, “I think a lot of people are afraid of the unknown, whereas I’m not. To me, it’s intriguing. And I want to learn about it.”

During their conversations, Brian and Kassius would delve into topics that Brian initially found different but ultimately came to understand that raising an LGBTQIA+ child is no different from raising a straight one. Brian emphasized that it’s about the choice of a partner and that it doesn’t affect him at all. He encouraged people to be more accepting, asking, “Why do you care so much? And why are you trying to somehow bully your feelings and your opinion into something that literally does not affect you at all?”

Lance Bass, who came out as gay in 2006, also chimed in, highlighting the importance of parental acceptance and understanding for LGBTQIA+ children. He mentioned that even when parents accept their children’s sexuality, there are times when the child still feels a sense of disagreement or non-acceptance:

“So many kids out there don’t get that. And even if their parents accept them, there [are] a lot of times when the kid still knows that they still disagree with it.”

Kassius has been open about his love life on social media since 2019, showing that he’s proud of who he is and whom he loves. Brian Austin Green shares Kassius with his ex, Vanessa Marcil.

Brian’s candid and open-minded approach to parenting his gay son serves as a positive example of acceptance, understanding, and unconditional love. It’s a reminder that what truly matters in parenting is supporting and cherishing your child for who they are, regardless of their sexual orientation.
