BTS member Suga, known for his soulful music and dedicated fanbase, recently found himself in hot water after a lapse in judgment led to his driver’s license being revoked. The 31-year-old star was arrested in Seoul, South Korea, on Tuesday, August 6, after he was caught driving an electric scooter while intoxicated. The news, first reported by TMZ, quickly spread across social media, leaving fans shocked and concerned.

Suga wasn’t behind the wheel of a car but was riding an electric kickboard—a type of electric scooter that’s popular for short commutes in urban areas. Despite its seemingly harmless nature, the kickboard is still considered a vehicle under South Korean law, meaning that driving it while intoxicated carries serious consequences. After failing a breathalyzer test, Suga faced the immediate revocation of his driver’s license and was also fined for the offense.

The news of his arrest hit fans hard, but Suga wasted no time addressing the situation. Taking to social media, he issued a heartfelt apology on X (formerly known as Twitter), where he expressed his regret and took full responsibility for his actions.

“I am deeply sorry and deeply sorry to have to come to you with disappointing news,” Suga began his statement. He went on to explain the events of the night, revealing that he had been out for dinner and made the poor decision to ride his electric scooter home after drinking. “I rode an electric scooter home after drinking at a dinner last night. I thought it was a short distance and didn’t realize that you can’t ride an electric scooter while intoxicated, so I violated the road traffic laws.”

Suga’s statement was sincere and straightforward, as he described the incident in detail. “While I was parking my electric kickboard at the front gate of my house, I fell over by myself,” he explained. “As a result of the breathalyzer test conducted by a police officer nearby, my license was revoked, and a fine was imposed.” Thankfully, Suga assured fans that no one was harmed and no property was damaged during the incident. However, he didn’t shy away from acknowledging his mistake. “This is my responsibility, and I have no excuses, so I bow my head and apologize to everyone,” he stated.

In concluding his message, Suga expressed his regret for the disappointment his actions may have caused to his fans and those who look up to him. “I apologize to everyone who was hurt by my careless and wrong actions, and I will be more careful in my actions to avoid this from happening again.”

Suga is currently serving his mandatory military service, having enlisted in September 2023.
