BTS made history with their nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their hit “Dynamite,” at the 2021 Grammy Awards, becoming the first K-Pop group to receive a Grammy nomination.

The boys were up against fellow nominees J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny and Tainy; Justin Bieber with Quavo; Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande; and Taylor Swift with Bon Iver. Sunday’s (March 14) ceremonies saw the award go to Gaga and Ari for their collab “Rain On Me”.

A number of BTS’ fans were disappointed – and were pretty vocal on social media about it. Still, many showed support for the K-Pop group and encouraged them and fellow fans not to give up, ultimately making the hashtag #BTSOurGreatestPrize trend on Twitter.

However, the boys of BTS aren’t taking the loss too hard – they actually see it as a sign that there’s going to be a next time.

In a VLive session on Monday (March 15), RM assured fans that they shouldn’t be disappointed.

“The reason we weren’t able to win is, I think many of you probably expect this, but we took it as them telling us to come and get the award in person,” RM said. (English translation via AllKpop.)

During Sunday’s show, BTS also recreated the Grammy stage and gave a “Dynamite” performance all the way from Seoul, South Korea.

“I saw a lot of articles saying we ‘failed’ to get the award, but I don’t think it’s a fail since we were able to perform for the first time as nominees. I don’t think it’s a failure but let’s look at the positive side; we were nominated for the first time and did our first solo performance,” he continued.
