Cardi B, the chart-topping rapper known for her unapologetic persona and hit singles like “WAP” and “Bodak Yellow,” recently revealed a frightening ordeal that nearly resulted in the loss of her unborn child. The 31-year-old artist, who is currently expecting her third child with estranged husband Offset, took to social media to share the details of a “freak accident” that landed her in the hospital, leaving her “literally paralyzed” and reliant on morphine for pain relief.
The incident, which Cardi describes as a “freak accident,” unfolded unexpectedly and could have had devastating consequences. Speaking to her fans during a candid meetup on X Spaces, Cardi expressed the shock and fear she felt during the ordeal. “I had a f-cking freak accident. That’s what I have to explain it. I don’t know how something, well, it wasn’t little. It actually hurt,” Cardi explained, as reported by Entertainment Tonight. The pain was so intense and the situation so severe that it left her unable to move, a terrifying experience for anyone, let alone someone carrying a child.
Cardi went on to describe the severity of the situation, noting how rare and unusual it was. “It doesn’t really happen often, but it became something that is so big to the point I was literally paralyzed. But yeah. And that little thing almost cost me my little one to come. But it didn’t,” she continued. The mere thought of losing her unborn child due to an accident was clearly a harrowing experience for the rapper.
Thankfully, after being treated in the hospital, Cardi was able to return home. However, the effects of the ordeal were still lingering. “Yesterday I was feeling good. I came home, but I came home high as a kite,” she shared with her signature blend of humor and honesty. The potent pain relief had dulled the physical pain but also left her in an altered state, something she was keen to move past. “Today, I woke up sober, honey. I’m dying. Like, I’m dying. I swear to God, if I don’t feel good in four hours I’m going to the hospital and I don’t give a f-ck,” she said, making it clear that the pain was still very much present.
Cardi’s candidness didn’t stop there. With her usual flair, she admitted that the idea of returning to the hospital wasn’t entirely unwelcome if it meant getting more pain relief. “I’mma exaggerate this s-it so I can get more morphine. Morphine me down! I don’t give a d-mn. Oh my god,” she said, highlighting the intensity of her discomfort while also adding a touch of her characteristic humor to the situation.
On Thursday, August 8, Cardi returned to X Spaces to offer more insight into what had happened and to explain the accident in detail. During the conversation, she revealed that she had slipped while descending a flight of stairs. “I practically fell, but I was trying to prevent myself from falling, so I was holding myself on the railing. My foot still slipped, and I kind of busted my ass,” she explained, according to People. The slip was more than just a minor mishap; it resulted in a serious injury that left her in excruciating pain.
Cardi described the moment she realized something was seriously wrong. “I felt a weird jerk, like a pop, and I couldn’t get up really,” she recounted. Despite the initial pain, she didn’t immediately realize the extent of her injury and decided to take a nap, hoping the discomfort would subside. However, when she woke up, the situation had worsened significantly. “When I woke up, I couldn’t move my bottom at all. Like, just moving my feet was hurting the bottom of my stomach. I couldn’t move. I felt like paralyzed,” she said, recalling the panic and fear that gripped her as she realized the gravity of her condition.
She was quickly taken to the hospital, where doctors discovered that she had torn a ligament in her pelvis. The injury was located perilously close to where the baby’s head was, which complicated the situation even further. “It’s right where the baby’s head is at,” she explained, adding that the injury had triggered contractions. “I dilated and I was having contractions for every two minutes for a whole 24 hours.” The prospect of going into premature labor was a terrifying possibility, and Cardi’s medical team worked tirelessly to ensure both she and her baby were safe.
For two days, Cardi was unable to move, confined to a hospital bed as she recovered from the injury. Although she was eventually released from the hospital, the road to recovery is far from over. Cardi has been put on bed rest and must undergo therapy to aid in her healing. Despite the scary ordeal, Cardi’s resilience and humor have remained intact, and she’s thankful to be on the mend.
We’re glad to see that Cardi is on the path to recovery and wish her all the best as she prepares to welcome her third child into the world.
