Stars are sending love to Britney Spears after watching her new unauthorized documentary, Framing Britney Spears, which debuted Friday (February 7).

The documentary, created by The New York Times, followed the pop icon’s meteoric rise to fame, how she was painted in the media, and her troubled history in the spotlight leading up to her current circumstances – including her controversial conservatorship which has sparked the #FreeBritney movement. The doc also touched on past interviews and her past relationships.

Britney has been in a conservatorship since 2008, with her dad, Jamie Spears, as her legal guardian and co-conservator of her estate. In 2019, concerned fans began the #FreeBritney movement amid her ongoing conservatorship battle with her father – and, after watching the documentary, it appears the movement is gaining some A-list supporters as well.

Miley Cyrus gave Britney a shoutout during her set at the “TikTok Tailgate” ahead of Sunday’s (February 7) Super Bowl LV – telling the audience, “We love Britney” when she performed “Party in the U.S.A.”

Kacey Musgraves went on Instagram Story to urge her followers to watch the doc. “Never has one person been so used and abandoned by every facet around her,” the Golden Hour singer wrote. “My heart goes out to her. She has always been such an inspiration to me my whole kid/teen life. Wish she could get a re-do.”

Lucy Hale also shared her thoughts on IG Stories after watching the doc.

“Watched Framing Britney last night & all I can say is we all owe this woman an apology for mocking her emotional pain and trauma all these years,” Lucy wrote. “Britney Spears was my idol growing up & still is in some ways. She was my first viewing of how a woman could be sexy without apologies.”

“this should really make us re-evaluate cancel culture & all the taboos that come along with mental health/illness,” she continued. “Also f-ck all the paparazzi who pushed her to a breakdown. Anyway, I love Brit. Always have. Always will.”

Paramore frontwoman, Hailey Williams, expressed her feelings on Twitter.

“The Framing Britney Spears doc holy f–k,” she tweeted. “No artist today would have to endure the literal torture that media/society/utter misogynists inflicted upon her. The mental health awareness conversation, culturally, could never be where it is without the awful price she has paid.”

Sam Smith seconded Hailey’s tweet, retweeting it for his followers.

“The rage and sadness I felt watching #FramingBritneySpears last night traveled with me into my dreams. I woke up wanting to burn everything down and be her friend. #FreeBritney,” Heather Matarazzo shared.

Andy Cohen and Courtney Love-Cobain called to #FreeBritney on Twitter as well.

“Good morning! have a great day! And: #FreeBritney,” Andy tweeted.

“#freebritney Thank you @nytimes you did what you could,” Courtney wrote, adding, “#wearesorrybritney”

Hayley Kiyoko, Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and more also went on the platform to voice their support, with the hashtag, “#FreeBritney.”

It’s not clear whether Britney has seen the unauthorized doc herself, but according to Entertainment Tonight, she is aware of it.

“She’s always made aware of any important new releases that pertain to her life and career, and this was no different,” the source told the outlet. “She hasn’t seen the documentary because she never likes to focus on what others say about her.”

Britney’s boyfriend, Sam Asghari has since broken his silence following the release of the doc – and is looking forward to what the future has in store for them.

“I have always wanted nothing but the best for my better half, and will continue to support her following her dreams and creating the future she wants and deserves,” Sam told Entertainment Tonight. “I am thankful for all of the love and support she is receiving from her fans all over the world, and I am looking forward to a normal, amazing future together.”

As for the “amazing future” he’s talking about, Sam says marriage “absolutely” in the cards for the two of them.
