Ever since Kim Kardashian chose to wear Marilyn Monroe’s dress at the 2022 Met Gala, she and the dress have been the topic on many headlines about her choice to wear the iconic outfit.

She made headlines for her drastic weight loss to fit into the dress, she made headlines when people questioned why she was able to use the dress, she made headlines when people saw that the dress didn’t even completely close at the back when she wore it.

And very recently, she made headlines yet again when it seemed to appear as if the dress now has permanent damage.

In new photos shared by The Marilyn Monroe Collection, the dress looks to have been damaged by the wear. According to them, a fan visited Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, where the dress is displayed, and took some close photos of the dress after it was returned.

The dress apparently now has rips and tears and has crystals missing, with some seen hanging on by threads.

Ripley’s paid $4.8 million at an auction to procure the dress as part of its collection.

After the photos went viral, Ripley’s issued a statement on the condition of the dress, which Marilyn famously wore in 1962 for President John F. Kennedy’s birthday.

The statement read:

“From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in.”

Kim faced a lot of backlash when she wore Marilyn’s dress at the 2022 Met Gala. Experts on the dress, including the original sketch designer Bob Mackie, all voiced their concern. Bob said about the issue:

“I thought it was a big mistake.

[Marilyn] was a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess. She was just fabulous. Nobody photographs like that. And it was done for her. It was designed for her. Nobody else should be seen in that dress.”
