Dylan Sprouse, the beloved child star from The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, faced a harrowing experience behind the scenes. Kim Rhodes, who played the role of the twins’ mother on the hit Disney Channel series, recently shed light on the distressing incident where Dylan was subjected to body shaming by someone in a position of authority on set.

During a candid conversation on Christy Carlson Romano’s podcast, Vulnerable, Kim bravely peeled back the curtain on the challenging dynamics behind the scenes. She vividly recalled an appalling incident that unfolded right in front of everyone at the craft service—the haven for delectable treats on set.

Kim revealed the shocking moment: “Some significant power came down to the craft service, and screamed at the number of donuts and said, ‘No more junk food until he looks like him again,’ pointing at Dylan and Cole.”

The distressing part? Dylan and Cole, although twins, had different body types, and this difference was unfairly highlighted in a humiliating manner. Dylan, in particular, was singled out and body shamed in front of the entire crew, leaving a lasting impact on the young actor.

Kim didn’t shy away from confronting the situation head-on. She passionately defended the then-child stars, taking a stand against the unjust treatment Dylan had to endure. She recalled, “I f-cing lit into [them]. You do not have the right to say that to a child. You don’t have the right to be writing for children if that is your attitude. Never again do you speak like that. Never.”

Her fiery response wasn’t just a momentary reaction; it was a vehement defense of a child who deserved respect and support, not criticism for his appearance. Moreover, she made sure to shield Dylan and Cole from any guilt or blame, ensuring the conversation remained private and away from the twins’ ears.

Kim’s advocacy for the young actors speaks volumes about her dedication to protecting them from the toxic aspects of the industry. Her intervention, while it may not erase the scars left by that incident, was a crucial stand against body shaming and an affirmation of the right of every individual, especially children, to be treated with dignity and respect.

Body shaming, especially in a public setting and directed at a child, is profoundly hurtful and can have lasting effects on self-esteem and mental health. Kim’s actions not only defended Dylan but also underscored the importance of standing up against such toxic behaviors, especially in environments where children are involved.

Dylan’s experience sheds light on the darker side of the entertainment industry, highlighting the importance of creating a nurturing and supportive environment for young talents. It’s a reminder that everyone, regardless of age or status, deserves to be treated with kindness and compassion.
