Ed Sheeran is making a stand.

The 32-year-old English singer-songwriter is currently in trial after being sured by the heirs of Ed Townsend, Marvin Gaye’s co-writer on “Lets Get It On.” They are claiming that Ed’s 2014 mega hit “Thinking Out Loud” has similarities to the iconic 1973 song.

Ed has been making appearances in court. He even played a mini-performance of the two songs to show what is widely considered a common building block of pop songwriting – the four-chord progression.

Shortly after putting down his guitar following his performance, he told a jury that if he loses the suit, he may not be picking up his guitar and making music anymore.

When asked by his lawyer what would happen if he lost, Ed is said to have replied:

“I’m done. I’m stopping.

I find it really insulting to work my whole life as a singer-songwriter and diminish it.”
