Elliot Page is opening up about a secret relationship he was in with fellow actor Kate Mara.
The 36-year-old Oscar-nominated actor went into detail about the relationship in his new memoir Pageboy.
In the book, he wrote about Kate:
“The first person I fell for after my heart was broken was Kate Mara. She had a boyfriend at the time, the lovely and talented Max Minghella.”
The relationship was a secret to the public. But Elliot revealed that it was not a secret to Max, who was supportive of the relationship. Elliot said that Kate told Max, “I never thought I could be in love with two people and now I am.”
Elliot shared of the relationship:
“This was right after I’d come out as gay [in 2014] and it was a time of exploration and also heartbreak.” I think my relationship, or whatever you want to call it with Kate, very much encapsulates a certain dynamic that I consistently found myself in, which was falling for people that — I think a lot of us do this — who aren’t fully available. And the sort of safety in that and the highs and the lows and the serotonin bump, and then it goes away. And I think that is definitely a pattern in my life.”
Elliot and Kate are still very close friends to this day. Kate has already read his memoir, and will even joint Elliot at a book launch event in LA.
Elliot said:
“I think the love and care that we have for each other is it’s very own special thing. Separate from the intimacy that I write about.”
Elliot and Kate played a couple in the film My Days OF Mercy. The film premiered at TIFF in 2017 and was released in 2019. The movie was seemingly made after their secret relationship.
