Gwyneth Paltrow is giving the lowdown on how her beauty and wellness routine has evolved in her 40s.

In a Vogue Beauty Secrets video, the actress revealed that keeping up with skin care wasn’t a big part of her daily routine until much later.

“I was not a person who ever had a skincare routine as a teenager — my daughter does — but I was very much a tomboy, so this whole skincare thing has come to me later in life,” she shared.

She takes some pointers from her mom. “I think what I learned from her most is just to be comfortable with yourself. Just be comfortable in your skin,” she shared, adding that she also follows her mom’s less-is-more philosophy when it comes to makeup.

She also explains that her wellness routine doesn’t stop at just taking care of the outside.

“One of the things that I really learned as I get well into my 40s is how important it is to take good care of your skin from the inside out. That means hydration, exercise, breathing fresh air, going for a walk, eating foods that are high in nutritional density,” she explains. “I really believe that as women we should feel free to do whatever we want as we age in order to feel our best selves.”

She starts off her morning with a power-packed smoothie made with nut milk, almond butter and protein powder to make sure she gets some protein in before doing her morning workout. To help with circulation and exfoliation, she also uses a dry brush – make sure the bristles have “a little resistance” – which she brushes along her skin, starting from the toes going up, always brushing in the direction of the heart.

The Goop founder practices transcendental meditation every morning with husband Bard Falchuk, which she explains is “a really nice way to start the day, just centered and kinda letting the mind empty out.”

She also shares the importance of coming up with a routine. ”I really find that creating a practice or a ritual out of something makes it so that you’re definitely investing in yourself for that time everyday,” she shared.
