It’s been more than a year since Justin Bieber revealed that he’d been diagnosed with Lyme Disease – and his wife Hailey Bieber, is opening up about how his condition has impacted her.

Back in January 2020, Justin shared his diagnosis with his Instagram followers.

“While a lot of people kept saying justin Bieber looks like s–t, on meth etc. they failed to realize I’ve been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease,” he wrote at the time. “not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health.”

Hailey showed her support for her hubby, defending him from online trolls, tweeting, “For those who are trying to downplay the severity of Lyme disease. Please do your research and listen to the stories of people who have suffered with it for years. Making fun of and belittling a disease you don’t understand is never the way, all it takes is educating yourself.”

In a recent interview with Women’s Health U.K.’s podcast Going For Goals, Hailey revealed that Justin’s health situation has made her pay more attention to her health.

“I think with the Lyme disease and that situation, it definitely makes you more aware of your health, and I think it makes you pay more attention to how you feel and different symptoms,” Hailey said.

“Lyme disease is an interesting thing because a lot of people don’t believe it’s real, and a lot of people think it’s BS. But I’ve had it before, I’ve dealt with it,” she added.

Although Hailey did not share details of her own experience, she did open up about how Justin was dealing with it. “My husband has it and deals with it very deeply,” she said. “I think it’s about finding the right doctors who believe in getting to the bottom of any health issues that you might have.”

According to the CDC, Lyme disease is transmitted through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks and affects the joints, the heart and the nervous system. Symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a skin rash. Several celebrities have opened up about their own battles with Lyme, including Yolanda, Bella and Anwar Hadid, as well as Avril Lavigne and Amy Schumer.
