Rachel Zegler and Ansel Elgort starred together in 2021’s long-awaited West Side Story movie, which they had filmed a handful of years prior.
The movie’s release date was pushed back quite a bit before it was finally released. In between filming and release, allegations of sexual assault against Ansel exploded and made the rounds in June 2020. The alleged incident is said to have happened in 2014 when Ansel was 20.
Now, in a new interview, Rachel and their other co-stars Ariana DeBose and Rita Moreno are speaking out on the allegations.
This is what Rachel said:
“We made a movie two and a half years ago, and a lot has gone on in the world since then. A lot has changed very publicly, and privately as well. There’s been a lot of awakening.
You just hope that the people involved are okay, that they are asked in a respectful manner and that they are given the opportunity to answer for themselves.”
Rita stated it was not her place to judge:
“I think it would have been absolutely horrendous and wrong for anyone to take sides in that matter. It’s not for me to make those judgments.”
And Ariana believes nobody knows what really happened except for this involved:
“Nobody really knows what’s going on in anyone’s head. Only the people who were involved in that situation know what actually went down.”
