Janet Jackson was supposed to be honored with the Global Impact Award at the 2023 Grammys.

Reports have it that the 56-year-old music legend was up to win the Global Impact Award. However, she has passed on the chance to do so. And according to reports, it is because she wanted an apology from CBS for how she was treated following her infamous Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction before she would accept the award.

If you recall, Janet was blacklisted by CBS after she suffered a wardrobe malfunction exposing her breast while performing on stage with Justin Timberlake at the Super Bowl Halftime Show back in 2004.

Janet wanted the network to issue an apology for how they treated her in some meaningful form before she would agree to appear on stage at the upcoming Grammy Awards.

CBS aired both the Super Bowl in 2004 as well as the Grammys. The network disinvited her to the awards show that year.

Janet was said to have originally been set to accept the Global Impact Award at an event ahead of this year’s ceremony. But due to her being unable to attend the event because of scheduling conflicts, it was proposed that she be honored at the televised awards show.

Grammy organizers reportedly tried to help bridge the gap, but talks allegedly fell apart due to complications. The Recording Academy wound up honoring Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne, and Missy Elliott with the Global Impact Award.
