Jada Pinkett-Smith just dropped a bombshell about her marriage with Will Smith that’s got everyone shook.
In a revealing interview with People published on October 11, the 52-year-old actress, Red Table Talk host, and author got real about her relationship with the 55-year-old actor, and it’s safe to say, it’s pretty darn shocking.
First, she spilled the beans about that infamous incident at the 2022 Academy Awards when Will slapped Chris Rock onstage for making jokes about her. She thought it was all part of an act, saying, “I thought, ‘This is a skit.’ I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him.’ It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit.”
After the slap, the first thing she asked Will when they were alone was, “Are you okay?” Now, that’s some genuine concern right there.
But here comes the real shocker. Jada then dropped the bomb that she and Will have been separated for seven years, starting back in 2016!
In an interview on the Today show, she spilled some more tea, saying, “Why it fractured, that’s a lot of things. I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”
She even considered a legal divorce but couldn’t go through with it. She made a promise to Will, vowing that there would never be a reason for them to get divorced. She confessed, “I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through whatever. And I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
And the shocker continues – they live separately. Yeah, you heard it right.
But don’t go jumping to conclusions just yet. Jada clarified that no permanent decisions have been made about the future of their marriage. They’re still figuring it out. She spilled, “We’re still figuring it out. We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other, and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
She’s standing by Will’s side but giving him the space to figure things out for himself. It’s a true partnership.
“I’m going to be by his side, but also allow him to have to figure this out for himself.”
In her Today interview, she explained why they’d been keeping it a secret all this time, saying, “Just not being ready… still trying to figure out between the two of us how to be in a partnership. In regards to how do we present that to people, you know, and we hadn’t figured that out.”
