Janet Jackson is looking back at that infamous 2004 Super Bowl Halftime Show performance with Justin Timberlake that caused massive controversy back in the day.

If you can’t recall, Janet and Justin were on stage performing “Rock Your Body” during the halftime show when Justin accidentally exposed Janet’s breast in front of an audience of approximately 140 million people.

In her new A&E Lifetime docuseries, Janet addressed the performance and made it a point to set the record straight on just exactly where she stands with Justin now.

The 55-year-old entertainer said of the performance:

“Honestly, this whole thing was blown way out of proportion. And, of course, it was an accident that should not have happened, but everyone is looking for someone to blame and that’s got to stop.”

She went on to talk about Justin, stating that she and the 40-year-old performer are close friends today, almost 18 years after the incident that has since gone down as one of pop music’s most infamous on-stage moments:

“Justin and I are very good friends, and we will always be very good friends. We spoke just a few days ago.

He and I have moved on, and it’s time for everyone else to do the same.”

Janet revealed that at the time, Justin had asked her if he should speak out publicly after the huge public backlash she faced:

“We talked once and [Justin] said, ‘I don’t know if I should come out and make a statement.’ And I said, ‘Listen, I don’t want any drama for you. They’re aiming all of this at me.’

So I said, ‘If I were you, I wouldn’t say anything.’”

Justin issued a public apology to Janet in 2021, after people called him out for his treatment of Britney Spears following their split and subsequently bringing up the Janet incident again.
