In an excerpt from her new memoir, aptly titled “Behind The Shoulder Pads: Tales I Tell My Friends,” Joan shares a little tale about an incident that went down at the Met Gala in 2019. The Met Gala, as you might know, is one of the most prestigious and star-studded fashion events in the world.
Now, keep in mind, the 2019 Met Gala was particularly special for Joan Collins because it was the first time she had been invited to this major fashion extravaganza. Joan was having an absolute blast, enjoying the glitz and glamour of the event, until something unexpected happened.
Joan writes in her memoir about the magical atmosphere at the gala and how everyone reacted when Cher performed, “The sophisticated crowd went mad for her, standing up whooping and cheering. Bette Midler, wearing a top hat and tailcoat in glittery black sequins, came to our table and boogied with Julianne Moore. And I glimpsed Gwyneth Paltrow and Katie Holmes doing the same.”
So far, so good, right? But then came the moment that Joan apparently couldn’t forget, the moment when things took a little twist. As Cher stepped up to perform one of her iconic songs, the entire room erupted in excitement.
Joan excitedly describes the scene, “Cher left after her first number then came back wearing her original Bob Mackie-style sleek black embroidered bodysuit and a massive black curly wig to sing ‘Believe.'”

In Joan’s own words, “Harry Styles jumped on the table in front of us, obscuring our view, and took no notice of our entreaties to ‘get down, we can’t see.’”
