CNCO will soon be down to four.

The band, comprised of members Zabdiel De Jesús, Richard Camacho, Erick Brian Colón, Christopher Vélez and Joel Pimentel, have together for the last five year. But on Sunday (May 9), Joel announced that he would be exiting the group.

In a letter shared on Instgaram, Joel thanked the CNCO’s legion of fans for their support before sharing the surprising news.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce that May 14, will be my last day as a member of CNCO,” he wrote. “It’s time for me to grow and explore new artistic avenues, it’s time to start building my own path and career. That’s why I’ve decided to leave the band.”

He also shared a message for his bandmates. “I truly wish you the best as you continue on with the CNCO legacy. We’ve lived through so much together that we’re family now.”

Zabdiel also posted a joint statement from the remaining member of the band on Instagram about Joel’s exit “after five and a half unforgettable and life changing years together.”

They also reassured fans that while Joel will no longer be in the band, the four of them totally “support him in his next chapter” and “will always be brothers.”

“We know this news is saddening and is going to be as hard for all of you as it is for us, be we appreciate you sticking with us,” the band’s statement read. “While it will be different, we are so excited to continue into this new era of CNCO, and can’t wait for all of you to see what we have in store for you!”

CNCO had just dropped their third album, Déjà Vu, in February, and went on to perform together at the star-studded Premio Lo Nuestro awards ceremony the same month.

But fans can still see them perform together “one last time.” The group is slated to perform at “global livestream concert event” on Friday (May 14).
