JoJo Siwa has some hindsight advice for teenagers: don’t rush into cohabitation with your significant other. Reflecting on her own romantic decisions during a recent episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, the former child star shared insights into her unconventional living arrangements as a teen.
Recalling the time when she shared a roof with her parents and girlfriend, Siwa emphasized the peculiarity of the situation. “As a 20-year-old, I look at 16-year-olds and I’m like, ‘Oh my god. You are the age that my girlfriend was when she moved into my house,’” Siwa told host Alex Cooper. She humorously noted, “Like, clearly U-Haul lesbians are a very real thing because I was one without even knowing what one was.”
The circumstances leading to their cohabitation were largely attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. Siwa explained, “It [was] COVID, it was summer. It just, kind of, all happened. Then, she came to California and then I was like, ‘Don’t leave.’” What began as a temporary stay extended into a nine-month stint, morphing them into a “married couple at 17 and 16” before inevitably parting ways.
With the benefit of hindsight, Siwa recognizes the inherent issues in their living arrangement. She acknowledged her mother’s reservations, admitting, “My mom says all the time, ‘I should’ve never allowed my 16-year-old’s partner to live with us. That was not healthy for you, much less her and her family. Someone should’ve put their foot down.’ But no one at the time felt it was right to.”
While Siwa doesn’t explicitly name her ex-girlfriend, the timeline suggests it was Kylie Prew, whom she met on a cruise in 2020. Their relationship became public knowledge when Siwa came out in January 2021, and she introduced Prew as her girlfriend in February of the same year. Despite their subsequent breakup, Siwa expressed appreciation for Prew’s support during their time together.
Since their split, Siwa has been linked romantically to TikTok stars Avery Cyrus and Katie Mills. However, she maintains a friendship with Prew, emphasizing that they still communicate regularly.
