Josh Hartnett, the 46-year-old actor known for his roles in films like Black Hawk Down and Pearl Harbor, recently opened up about the journey of his relationship with his wife, 35-year-old actress Tamsin Egerton. In a candid conversation with his former O co-star Julia Stiles for Interview magazine, Hartnett reflected on how their love story blossomed in the most unexpected of circumstances.
The beginning of their romance reads like the plot of a movie – but not necessarily a good one, as Hartnett humorously admitted. “We played husband and wife in the worst movie either of us have ever made. No offense to the director, it’ll remain nameless,” he said with a chuckle. “It just got lost in post-production. We were shooting here in London and both had significant others, and both realized that wasn’t going to work because we really liked each other.”
It was during the filming of this project, which eventually became the 2013 movie The Lovers, that Hartnett and Egerton first crossed paths. The chemistry between them was undeniable, and as Hartnett revealed, it led to some significant changes in both of their lives. “So I broke up with my girlfriend, she broke up with her boyfriend, and then after we stopped filming, we started to date,” he continued. The decision to end their previous relationships wasn’t easy, but it became clear that their connection was worth pursuing.
The beginning of their relationship was anything but conventional. The couple found themselves navigating a long-distance relationship, with Hartnett based in New York and Egerton in London. Despite the challenges that come with such an arrangement, their bond only grew stronger. Hartnett reminisced about the early days, saying, “Then she came out to the States and we went on a long road trip where she met my parents and it kept going.”
This road trip marked a pivotal moment in their relationship, solidifying their commitment to one another. “And then she kept staying with me, and I kept staying with her,” Hartnett added, illustrating how their lives gradually intertwined. The couple found themselves living between homes, spending more and more time together, until eventually, it became clear that they were building a life together. “We were living a lot of the time between houses together, and then she got pregnant and then we got married.”
Their love story took another significant turn when Egerton became pregnant. The couple welcomed their first child together, marking the start of their journey as parents. Hartnett and Egerton have since expanded their family, and they are now proud parents of four children.
