This is it. The moment every loyal Grey’s Anatomy fan has been waiting for. The doctor is (back) in.
Fan Favorite character Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery (formerly Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepard) is scrubbing back into the world of Grey’s Anatomy. It was just announced that Kate Walsh – who played Addison until season three of the show and then on her own spinoff series, Private Practice – is set to return to the series to reprise her role.
Kate will be appearing on Grey’s upcoming 18th season, with outlets reporting that she will be on the show for “multiple episodes.”
The actress made the major reveal herself on social media Thursday night. In a video posted to the Grey’s Anatomy social media accounts, Kate said:
“Well, well, well, would you look who it is. That’s right, my loves, Dr. Addison Montgomery is coming back to Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital, and I’m so excite to be home again, joining Shonda [Rhimes], Ellen [Pompeo], and the rest of the incredible cast.”
Kate also took to her own social media to confirm her big return. She did so by way of a popular TikTok trend, revealing that a question people always ask her is: “Will you ever come back to Grey’s Anatomy?” To this, she had a simple answer: “Yes.” The video then awesomely cuts to her wearing scrubs and lip-syncing an iconic American Horror Story line said by Emma Roberts:
“Surprise, bitch. I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.”
Love. It.
Kate joined the cast of Grey’s during the season one finale in one of the series’ most epic scenes, where Meredith finds out that McDreamy was actually (gasp!) married and that tall, gorgeous red-head in front of her was his wife. She stayed on the show for seasons two and three, before doing the Addison-headlined spin-off, Private Practice, from 2007 to 2013.
Back in 2017, Kate seemed to imply that it was unlikely for her to return to Grey’s, saying:
“I feel like we wrapped it up… I’m not saying if (series creator) Shonda [Rhimes[ was like, ‘We’re gonna do a very special episode of Grey’s where… But she really consciously, we did it all. We had the spinoff, and we had all that. It was an amazing experience and journey.”
And now, Addison’s making the journey back home to Grey’s! We can’t wait!
