Kelly Clarkson, the powerhouse singer, and talk show host, isn’t just making headlines for her music or hosting gig. She’s candidly addressing her relationship status, her take on dating, and sharing insights into her weight loss journey.

After splitting from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock in 2020 and finalizing their divorce in 2022, Kelly Clarkson is steering clear of thoughts about marriage. In an interview with People, she shared her sentiments, emphasizing her contentment with being single. “I never wanted to get married the first time,” she explained. “[Brandon] had children, a religious background, and it was important, I think, for him. But I’ve never been that person. Because I’ve been through a couple divorces in my family, I just don’t like to put any weight on it. It can happen; it doesn’t have to happen. For my kids, I definitely would never even think about it until they’re out of my house.”

Opening up about the dating scene, Kelly Clarkson didn’t mince words. “Dating sucks,” she admitted, revealing her discomfort with the whole process. “It’s so awkward.

I was single until I was, like, 30, and I forgot how really good at that I am. I told a friend [that a potential partner] would have to be an individual that brings their own life to the table without needing anything from me. It’s far more romantic to say, ‘I want you, but I don’t need anything.’”

Kelly added, “I’m really good right now, I’m having a good time,” noting that she’s always known that love is “hard” and “not forever.”

The singer’s recent weight loss was also a topic of discussion. After experiencing a challenging period in Los Angeles and recognizing the toll it took on her mental health and her children’s well-being, Kelly made the move to New York City. “I was very unhappy in L.A. and had been for several years. I needed a fresh start. We told NBC, ‘I’m not trying to sound ungrateful, I just can’t stay here anymore for my mental health; for me and my kids.’ They weren’t doing well either.

For the past few years, I’d just been showing up and smiling and doing what I’m supposed to do, but you can only compartmentalize so long until you break.”

Explaining her change in routine, she noted her increased physical activity in the bustling city.

“We [her and her kids] go walk the dogs a few times at the park. We’ll go for ice cream because my daughter will wear me down. We’ll go make slime and we go to the museum.

Walking in the city is quite the workout. And I’m really into infrared saunas right now. And I just got a cold plunge because everybody wore me down.”

Addressing her weight loss journey, Kelly attributed her success to listening to her doctor and adopting a healthier eating approach. “I eat a healthy mix. I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor — a couple years I didn’t. And 90 percent of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat — sorry, vegetarians in the world!”

Kelly emphasized the importance of her mental and physical well-being, articulating the significance of finding joy and balance in her life, especially in the midst of major life changes. Her candidness about her personal journey not only resonates but also serves as an inspiration to many navigating similar challenges.
