Mary-Kate Olsen has encountered a roadblock in her petition to divorce husband Olivier Sarkozy.

The Elizabeth & James co-founder reportedly initially tried to file for divorce on April 17 – but with the coronavirus pandemic going on, the courts in New York were not accepting divorce filings – unless it’s an emergency.

On Wednesday (May 13), Mary-Kate requested an emergency order to file for divorce, claiming that Olivier was trying to force her out of their New York City apartment.

The former actress reportedly alleged that her lawyers received an email from Olivier’s lawyers that she has until May 18 to move out of their NYC apartment. She also claimed that he terminated their lease without her knowledge.

According to court documents, she can’t make the deadline because of the quarantine, and is trying to protect her property by filing for divorce to prevent him from getting rid of it. She also reportedly asked for her prenup to be enforced.

However, Mary-Kate’s request has been denied. Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michael Katz made the ruling on Thursday (May 14), according to New York courts spokesman Lucian Chalfen.

The judge decided “it was not an essential matter,” and deemed that the divorce proceedings would not move forward.

Mary-Kate and Olivier began dating in 2012 and tied the knot in 2015. They’ve mostly kept their romance out of the spotlight, but have been spotted out and about attending event on several occasions throughout the years.

They have yet to publicly address the split but sources say the breakup has been “brutal” – the divorce has become “heated” and Mary-Kate is “done with constant drama.”

“It’s gotten very ugly between them,” a source tells E!.

Yikes!
