Miley Cyrus is getting candid about celebrity privilege.

As most of us continue to stay home amid the coronavirus pandemic, Miley admits that being an A-list celebrity has helped shield her from a lot of the struggles that many are going through amid social distancing and work shut downs.

“I know I’m in a unique position, and my experience with this pandemic is not like most everyone else’s in my country and around the world,” she said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “My life has been pushed pause on, but really I have no idea what this pandemic is like… I am comfortable in my space and able to put food on my table and [I am] financially stable, and that’s just not the story for a lot of people.”

When the stay-at-home and shelter-in-place orders began, Miley launched her Instagram show, Bright Minded, to connect with fans as well as some of her famous friends. The show has featured celebrities like fellow Disney alums Hilary Duff, Selena Gomez, Emily Osment, as well as other A-listers like Reese Witherspoon and more.

But not everyone she reached out to has agreed to come on her Instagram show – some celebs just left her DMs on read. She thinks they may have been reluctant to come on the show to talk about their experiences because of that same privilege.

“I’m sure some people I was reaching out to felt the same way I do, which is that my experience is so rare, it almost doesn’t feel right to talk about,” she noted. “I’m sure a lot of the hesitation for other people saying yes to doing the show is because it almost doesn’t feel right for celebrities to share our experience. Because it just doesn’t compare.”

But, unique position aside, how Miley has been spending most of her days quarantining is still pretty relatable.

“I’m in my sweatpants and a top knot, just like everyone else,” she shared. “I’ve only washed my hair twice for the show: once for Elton John and once for Sen. [Elizabeth] Warren.”
