Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are officially divorced.
According to court records, a Los Angeles judge has signed off on their divorce settlement on Tuesday (January 28).
As a refresher, Liam and Miley announced their separation in August 2019 after only eight months of marriage. Days later, Liam filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce papers were filed in Los Angeles.
Back in December, reports came out that the former couple have reached a settlement in their divorce. Aside from divvying up their assets, which wasn’t necessarily complicated since they had a prenup, neither sought spousal support. Miley will also reportedly keep their furbabies.
BUT, TMZ reports that they’re not officially single YET. Apparently, the judge post-dated their official single statuses and won’t be effective until February 22, 2020.
Since splitting in August, Miley has had a relationship with Kaitlynn Carter and is currently very publicly dating Cody Simpson. Liam, on the other hand, kept his romances more on the DL. He, however, previously sparked dating speculations with Dynasty actress Maddison Brown, and was later romantically linked with model Gabrielle Brooks.
There were speculations that their split was caused by infidelity on Miley’s part – but she shut that down real quick.
“I can accept that the life I’ve chosen means I must live completely open and transparent with my fans who I love, and the public, 100% of the time. What I cannot accept is being told I’m lying to cover up a crime I haven’t committed. I have nothing to hide,” Miley began the 11-tweet thread.
“It is no secret that I was into partying in my teens and early 20’s. I have not only smoked, but advocated for weed, I’ve experimented with drugs, my biggest song to date is about dancing on molly and snorting lines in the bathroom,” she continued.
She did admit to cheating in relationships when she was younger, and revealed that she had lost a Walmart deal for “ripping a bong,” and was “kicked off Hotel Transylvania for buying Liam a penis cake for his birthday and licking it.” She also opened up about the possible consequences of her more daring antics when she was younger.
“But the truth is, once Liam & I reconciled,I meant it, & I was committed. There are NO secrets to uncover here. I’ve learned from every experience in my life. I’m not perfect, I don’t want to be, it’s boring. I’ve grown up in front of you, but the bottom line is, I HAVE GROWN UP,” she wrote. “I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating. Liam and I have been together for a decade. I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will.”
She also said that her decision to “leave a previous life behind” was what she felt was “healthy” for her. “I am the healthiest and happiest I have been in a long time. You can say I am a twerking, pot smoking , foul mouthed hillbilly but I am not a liar,” she added.
“I am proud to say, I am simply in a different place from where i was when I was a younger,” she concluded.
