Millie Bobby Brown, the talented star known for her role in “Stranger Things,” recently shared the enchanting details of her engagement to Jake Bongiovi, son of rock legend Jon Bon Jovi. The 20-year-old actress and her 21-year-old beau took the plunge into forever in April 2023, with a proposal that unfolded in a unique and cinematic underwater setting.
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Millie bubbled over with joy as she recounted the magical moment that changed her life. The actress shared that the proposal happened during a scuba diving adventure, a shared passion for the couple.
Millie painted the scene of their engagement, describing how they were on vacation, exploring the depths of the ocean together. Jake, with a glint of excitement in his eyes, informed Millie about an 8 a.m. dive planned for the next day. Little did she know that this dive would mark a significant milestone in their relationship.
“He’s telling me, ‘We’re going to the same spot we usually go to,’” Millie recalled, laughing. “I’m like, ‘It’s boring, let’s go somewhere new.’ He’s like, ‘No, we have to go to this spot.’”
The proposal unfolded many meters below the ocean’s surface, adding an extra layer of magic to the moment. As Millie described it, Jake handed her a shell, and when she turned it over, she discovered a ring.
“He gives me, like, a shell, and I turn it over, and it’s a ring,” Millie shared, her eyes lighting up with the memory.
In the underwater world, where communication relies on hand signals, Millie expressed her acceptance of Jake’s proposal with the universally recognized “OK” gesture. Despite describing it as “underwhelming,” Millie emphasized the overwhelming joy they experienced beneath the waves.
However, the proposal took an unexpected turn when the ring nearly slipped off Millie’s finger and plummeted into the deep sea abyss. Describing the heart-stopping moment, Millie said, “(It) plummeted, like, so fast it was like a cinematic movie.”
In a moment that could be straight out of an action film, Jake, determined to preserve the symbol of their love, disregarded diving protocol and made a daring and deep dive to retrieve the ring. Millie vividly recounted the scene, saying, “Jake threw himself, like so deep, like the diver was like, ‘You can’t do that, like, your ears … literally your brain will explode.’ He does a cinematic, like, grab, opens (his hand) and he saved the ring!”
The captivating story didn’t end underwater. Once they resurfaced on the boat, Jake surprised Millie with the real ring, a precious family heirloom with a touching backstory. The ring once belonged to Millie’s mother, creating a beautiful connection between the past and the future.
“He was like, ‘This is your mom’s ring, and I got it from your parents,’” Millie shared. “And it was very magical, and his parents were there, and we just looked so disheveled coming out from a dive.”
