Breaking through the stratosphere of anticipation and soaring into the coveted role of Supergirl is none other than the talented Aussie actress Milly Alcock.

At 23, Milly has already left an indelible mark on the small screen with her portrayal of young Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon. However, she’s now set to embrace an entirely different kind of power as she dons the iconic cape in the upcoming DC Universe movie, Superman: Legacy.

Fans familiar with Milly’s work might recall her as the young dragon rider, but the future holds an even more thrilling adventure for the actress as she steps into the shoes of Kara Zor-El, a character with a backstory as complex as the intergalactic tapestry she hails from. While Milly won hearts as Rhaenyra, her commitment to bringing depth and authenticity to her characters promises to make her portrayal of Supergirl a cinematic spectacle.

Superman: Legacy, scheduled to begin production in March, marks the starting point for Milly’s journey into the DC Universe. However, it’s not just a one-time flight through the clouds for her. Following the Superman movie, Milly is set to headline her own feature film, titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, promising audiences a more intimate look into the life and struggles of this powerful heroine.

In unveiling Milly Alcock as the chosen Supergirl, director James Gunn shared his excitement about the unique angle they’re exploring with the character. In his words, “This is a very different type of Supergirl. In our [film], we see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from, you know, the time he’s an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock chip-off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl and is much more hardcore. She’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

This fresh take on Supergirl’s origin story promises a grittier and more intense narrative, exploring the resilience and strength forged in the crucible of adversity. Milly’s portrayal is poised to redefine the character and provide a new lens through which audiences can connect with the superhero.

The casting decision was not without its fair share of contenders, with actresses Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly also in the running for the role. However, Milly’s talent and unique approach to character development ultimately propelled her into the spotlight as the chosen Supergirl.
