Amber Heard is testifying against ex-husband Johnny Depp.
On Wednesday (May 4), the 35-year-old actress took to the stand for the first time in her defamation trial against the 58-year-old actor.
Here are some of the biggest bombshells from Amber’s testimony:
- Johnny slapped her for laughing at one of his tattoos. Amber claimed that Johnny allegedly hit her for the first time across the face when she laughed at his “Wino Forever” tattoo. “And I laughed. I laughed because I didn’t know what else to do. I thought this must be a joke. I just stared at him kind of laughing still, thinking that he was going to start laughing too to tell me it was a joke, but he didn’t. He said, ‘You think it’s so funny. You think you’re a funny bitch,’ and he slapped me again.”
- She explained her reason for staying with him after he hit her for the first time. “I knew it was wrong and I knew that I had to leave him. And that’s what broke my heart. Because I didn’t want to leave him. I wish I could sit here and say I stood up and walked out of that house and I drew a line and I stood up for myself.” When she tried to leave, Johnny is said to hav e gotten down on his knees, crying and telling her “I thought I put the monster away.
“ - She said she did leave shortly after the alleged incident and Johnny began to send her apology texts, saying “I’d rather cut my hand off than ever lay it upon you.” They reconciled and he promised he would not hit her again.
- Amber said Johnny threatened to “kill” Amber over an incident with Lily-Rose. In 2013 the then-couple were in the Bahamas with his kids Lily-Rose and Jack and while on his yacht he began to turn violent as he was drinking. She said there was no
“off button” when Johnny began to drink. He became visibly drunk and Lily-Rose started to panic and be upset at his behavior. Lily-Rose cried to the point where she was almost having a “panic attack” and Amber comforted her. “I’m holding her and comforting her. Johnny comes in and within a few seconds I realize that he shifted his attention on me and then he seemed very angry. He asked Lily-Rose to leave. Lily-Rose leaves, looks at me crying. And Johnny starts accusing me of kind of telling on him and calling him a drunk in front of his kids.” She said he then turned violent. “He slams me up against the side wall — we were in the bedroom this whole time — up against the wall of the cabin and slams me up by my neck. And holds me there for a second and tells me he could f–king kill me and that I was an embarrassment.” - Amber and Johnny started dating in secret on the set of the 2011 move The Rum Diary because he was splitting with Vanessa Paradis. “I fell head over heels in love with this man… We had this whirlwind romance in these beautiful places, falling in love, not being able to show because the world didn’t know about the split between he and his former partner. As a woman, that is troubling. He swore to me they hadn’t shared a bed for a year but were protecting the kids by not making it known to the press.”
- She alleged Johnny did MDMA with a female flight attendant. He got frustrated that the flight attendant was getting too friendly with Amber. She said Johnny grabbed the flight attendant’s hand and then her wrist, slamming it down on the table and telling her he could break her wrist. He got violent with Amber when they got off the plane.
- Amber said Johnny performed a cavity search on Amber in search for drugs. He accused her of stealing his cocaine. He started patting her down. “He ripped my dress, the top part of my dress. He’s grabbing my breasts, he’s touching my thighs, he rips my underwear off. He proceeds to do a cavity search. He said he was looking for his drugs, his cocaine, his coke. I was wondering how I, somebody who didn’t do cocaine and was against it, that was in and of itself causing problems in the relationship. He was insinuating [I was hiding it]. He was telling me, ‘We are going to conduct a cavity search.’ Like, just shoved his fingers inside me. I just stood there staring at the stupid light. I didn’t know what to do. I just stood there. While he did that. He twisted his fingers around. I didn’t say stop or anything.”
