Ansel Elgort is stepping into a new chapter — one that includes diapers, late-night walks, and the kind of quiet joy only a new parent can truly understand. The Baby Driver star is now officially a dad, after confirming the arrival of his first child. People reported the news, and the actor’s first public family moment followed shortly after.
On January 13, Ansel and his partner made their first family outing in New York City. The pair walked the streets together, and Ansel carried their baby in a chest carrier. The little one was dressed in an adorable teddy bear onesie. The trio even rode the subway together, which feels like a very New York way to celebrate a new arrival.
The news arrives after a period of relative quiet for the actor. In recent years, Ansel kept a low profile following a sexual assault allegation from a woman named Gabby. Ansel denied any wrongdoing. Despite that, he began appearing publicly more often throughout 2025.
It’s worth noting that Ansel hasn’t exactly been idle professionally. While 2021’s West Side Story remains his last major film role, he has kept busy in other spaces. He played Jake Adelstein in Tokyo Vice, the HBO Max series that ran for two seasons. More recently, he shifted his focus to the stage.
In November, Ansel made his professional dance debut in the rock ballet Quadrophenia. The show draws inspiration from The Who’s album of the same name. Ansel led the company as The Godfather, a role that drew praise from The Who frontman Pete Townshend.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Ansel to Quadrophenia,” Townshend said ahead of the show’s NYC debut. “The spirit of Rock ‘n’ Roll was not just my generation. It’s every generation.”
Outside of acting and dance, Ansel has been reconnecting with old friends. In July, he shared an Instagram post about a cross-country drive that included a stop in Indiana to see author John Green.
“Recently drove across the country and made a great stop in Indiana to see John Green,” Ansel wrote. “He took me to see the actual funky bones!”
The two even posed for photos atop the art installation by Joep van Lieshout. Ansel explained the significance with a nod to The Fault in Our Stars:
“If you remember from tfios Gus takes Hazel Grace there because the artist is Dutch,” Ansel explained. “He then surprises her with Dutch cheese and tomato sandwich (the tomato’s were Mexican) and tells her that they are going to Amsterdam!!!”
And if you thought Ansel was still stuck in cheese-and-tomato-sandwich mode, he’s moved on. In December, he posted a breakfast-making photo, explaining it was practice for his next role.
He captioned the Dec. 14 snap, “Preparing for my role as Givenchy by making French toast.”
Now, with a baby in the picture, it seems like Ansel is stepping into a new role entirely. And judging by the way he’s been showing up — on stage, on screen, and now as a parent — he appears ready for it.
