Ariana Grande has once again unintentionally gone viral — this time over two numbers she apparently had no idea were meme-coded. Contrary to what the internet might assume, Ariana Grande genuinely doesn’t know what 6–7 means.
The moment unfolded during Variety’s latest Actors on Actors series, where Ariana was paired with comedy legend Adam Sandler. During their conversation, Adam mentioned he was shooting “6 or 7” emotional scenes back-to-back. Ariana’s immediate reaction — a visible, subtle shift in her expression — quickly became meme fodder. Viewers clipped the moment, stitched it, analyzed it, and reposted it across social media, convinced Ariana was thinking about the 6-7 meme or mentally doing the associated hand gesture.
But that’s not what was going on at all.
A fan account posted the video with the caption, “Ariana Grande’s reaction to Adam Sandler casually saying ‘six or seven’ during their Variety Actors on Actors conversation is already becoming the internet’s new favorite meme.” That’s when Ariana herself stepped into the comments to clear things up.
“I don’t know what this means! I was reacting to him saying the amount of emotional scenes back to back! I’m scared what is 67,” she wrote. The pop star’s innocence — or perhaps blissful detachment — immediately made the meme even funnier. And in classic Ariana fashion, she followed up with another comment just moments later, adding, “actually I don’t want to know please I love you all enjoy ♡.”
It’s a refreshingly wholesome twist in a landscape where celebrity reactions are often over-interpreted. Instead of a coded look or intentional nod to internet culture, Ariana was simply reacting like a normal human hearing someone casually mention shooting seven emotional scenes in a row — which, to be fair, does sound exhausting.
The exchange also shows just how deeply online culture runs, and how quickly fans are to connect dots — even when the celebrity in question has no idea those dots exist. For Ariana, the moment is a mix of amusing and bewildering, but she took it in stride, handling the situation with humor and a whole lot of charm.
And whether she ever learns what “6–7” actually means? Well, based on her response, it sounds like she’d very much prefer not to.
