Ali Wong and Bill Hader have officially gone their separate ways.

On Wednesday, January 7, a source confirmed the breakup to PEOPLE, sharing that the two stars ended their relationship after two years together. Despite the split, the tone remains notably respectful and supportive.

“They are very much friends and still in touch,” the insider shared, emphasizing that the separation was amicable.

According to the source, the decision came down to logistics rather than drama. “It was too difficult to make the relationship work with Ali’s upcoming stand up tour and Bill’s various film and tv projects this year,” they explained.

“They’re focusing on their work and kids, while continuing to support and root for each other,” the source added.

While the couple kept much of their relationship private, their connection became public through subtle appearances and eventual red carpet moments. They made their official debut as a couple in February 2025 while attending the Directors Guild of America Awards, confirming months of speculation.

Ali previously shared the story of how the relationship began during a stand-up performance in May 2024. In the bit, she recalled receiving an unexpected call following her divorce.

“I get a phone call from this guy who I met at a dinner party in the past, and he got my number from a mutual friend. He was like, ‘Hey, I just happened to hear the news about your divorce, and I’ve had a crush on you forever. I actually told my best friend years ago that you were my dream girl, and I know it sounds crazy, but I want you to be my girlfriend.’”

At the time, Ali joked that she wasn’t immediately sold on the idea.

“I was like, ‘I just paid $25 [for the dating app]. You seem really nice, but I gotta get my money’s worth.’”

She later revealed that the mystery caller was Bill Hader.

Both Wong and Hader have experienced highly visible personal and professional evolutions over the last few years. Ali finalized her divorce from Justin Hakuta in 2022, while Bill ended his previous relationship around the same time. Since then, both have leaned heavily into their work, delivering acclaimed projects across comedy, film, and television.

For now, both appear focused on what lies ahead. Ali is preparing for her next stand-up tour, while Bill remains booked with multiple film and television projects. While their romantic chapter has closed, it’s clear the mutual respect remains intact.
