Colleen Hoover is known for writing deeply emotional stories that resonate with millions of readers around the world — and now, she’s sharing a very personal chapter of her own life.
The bestselling author, whose novels It Ends With Us, Verity, Ugly Love, and Reminders of Him have dominated bestseller lists and book club discussions alike, has revealed that she is undergoing treatment for cancer. Hoover shared the update quietly but candidly via Instagram earlier this week, offering fans a glimpse into what she’s been navigating behind the scenes.
On Monday, January 12, Hoover posted a photo to her Instagram Story showing herself standing in front of a mirror, dressed in a hospital gown ahead of a radiation treatment session. The image was raw, understated, and unmistakably real — a reflection of the honest voice that has defined her career.
“Second to last day of radiation! I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @texas.oncology but they’ve never been great. Hope you never need them, but highly recommend them,” she wrote, referencing Texas Oncology, where she has been receiving care.
The author’s trademark humor and warmth shone through even in the midst of a deeply challenging moment, something fans immediately recognized and appreciated. Hoover has long been praised for her ability to balance vulnerability with resilience — both on the page and in real life.
In December, Hoover had hinted that something was going on when she shared that she would be unable to attend a promotional event for the film adaptation of her novel Regretting You. At the time, she explained that she needed to undergo what she described as “unavoidable surgery” and would be unable to travel for a while. While she didn’t elaborate further at that point, the update left fans concerned and sending well wishes.
Not long after, Hoover chose to share more details about her health in a Facebook post to her private fan group, Colleen Hoover’s CoHorts. While the group itself is private, an Instagram user, @katyinkc, shared a screenshot of the post, allowing Hoover’s words to reach a broader audience.
In the post, Hoover revealed that she had been in Canada filming the upcoming adaptation of Reminders of Him, which is set to be released on March 13. During that time, she experienced recurring health issues that she admitted she had been putting off addressing.
Upon returning home, Hoover learned she had cancer. According to her message, the cancer has since been removed through surgery. Doctors recommended follow-up radiation treatment, but notably, she stated that chemotherapy would not be part of her treatment plan.
We’re sending strength, healing energy, and best wishes to Colleen Hoover as she continues her recovery.
