The ultimate Disney Channel nostalgia trip just locked in its crowning jewel. Disney officially confirmed that Demi Lovato is set to reprise her iconic role as Mitchie Torres in the highly anticipated third installment of the Camp Rock franchise, marking a full-circle return to the project that first launched her into global pop stardom nearly two decades ago.
The announcement came just ahead of the film’s star-studded Los Angeles premiere, landing just days before the movie’s official television debut on Disney Channel and subsequent streaming release on Disney+. Lovato joins a nostalgic lineup of returning franchise veterans, including Joe, Nick, and Kevin Jonas as the fictional pop sensation Connect 3, alongside Maria Canals-Barrera, who steps back into the shoes of Mitchie’s beloved mother, Connie Torres. Beyond stepping in front of the camera for the surprise appearance, Lovato and the Jonas Brothers are also pulling double duty behind the scenes as executive producers on the project.
Speculation regarding Lovato’s involvement had been brewing among fans since last autumn, when the pop star was spotted visiting the movie’s production set. While rumors swirled for months, director Veronica Rodriguez managed to keep details under wraps until the final countdown to release.
The third film breathes fresh energy into the franchise’s classic musical-competition format. When Connect 3 suddenly finds themselves in need of a brand-new opening act for their massive upcoming reunion tour, the trio heads back to their old stomping grounds at Camp Rock to scout fresh talent. As a determined new class of campers competes for the career-defining opportunity to open for their idols, tension brews, rivalries ignite, and unexpected romances bloom under the summer sun.
Camp Rock 3 premieres Thursday, August 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Disney Channel, streaming the following day on Disney+.
