Country artist Ella Langley has officially rewritten the music history books, earning the longest-running No. 1 song in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The 27-year-old singer-songwriter notched her 23rd non-consecutive week atop the main singles chart with her smash hit “Choosin’ Texas.” The milestone moves Langley past Mariah Carey’s iconic holiday staple, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which previously held the record at 22 weeks at the summit. While Carey’s track routinely re-claims top positioning during the winter months, Langley’s achievement cements a historic run for modern country music.
Prior to Langley’s run, the record for the longest-running non-holiday No. 1 belonged jointly to Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Topsy)” and Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road,” both of which logged 19 weeks at the top. Langley initially shattered that milestone upon hitting her 20th week at No. 1 before continuing her historic march toward week 23.
Despite the song’s massive cultural footprint, Langley remains grounded about its unprecedented resonance with listeners worldwide.
Reflecting on the track’s phenomenon in an interview with Billboard, Langley shared: “Those of us that wrote it, we talk about that. We love this song. I don’t know if it’s because it’s an honest point of view … but I hear a lot of honest songs all the time, so I don’t know. I tried to add some groove into this record, big singing choruses and big melodic guitar licks that you can remember. I don’t know if it feels nostalgic or sounds like something they hadn’t heard before.”
With radio support remaining strong and streaming numbers showing no signs of slowing down, Langley’s record-setting reign atop the Billboard Hot 100 continues to set new benchmarks for crossover country hits.
