Mel C has said no to an NYE gig.
The Spice Girls superstar has backed out of a New Year’s Eve event in Poland. She confirmed that she pulled out of the gig with an announcement on social media, in which she wrote:
“In light of some issues that have been brought to my attention, that do not align with the communities I support, I’m afraid I will no longer be able to perform in Poland as planned on New Year’s Eve.
I hope to be back there very soon. Hope you’re all having a wonderful Christmas and best wishes for 2023.”
Mel C did not elaborate further on the communities she was supporting. However, many have since taken the message to mean that she was referring to the LGBTQ community.
The show that Mel C was supposed to be performing at would have been staged by Poland’s public broadcaster TVP, who in recent years has been embroiled in accusations of fueling propaganda against the LGBTQ+ community.
