Oscar winner Javier Bardem has publicly backed an online movement calling for the removal of pop star Pink from her position as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, adding high-profile visibility to a growing feud within the entertainment industry surrounding the Israel-Palestine conflict.
On Monday, September 21, the 57-year-old No Country for Old Men actor re-shared several posts to his Instagram Stories promoting a active Change.org petition advocating for Pink’s dismissal from the global children’s charity. At the time of reporting, the petition has gathered more than 161,120 verified signatures and continues to gain traction online.
The campaign against the singer gained momentum after she publicly criticized rapper Macklemore for making pro-Palestinian comments on stage during Ed Sheeran’s “Loop” Tour. As public scrutiny mounted over her initial remarks, Pink initially posted defensive memes to her social media, including images captioned, “Being liked by everyone is a clown’s job.” She later published a 1,000-word essay elaborating on her perspective and detailing why she chose to speak out against Macklemore’s platforming of the issue during the tour.
The Change.org petition directly cites her public statements as grounds for her termination from the humanitarian organization.
“Pink‘s recent comments are not just unfortunate but also incompatible with the role of a UNICEF Ambassador—an individual expected to promote peace, understanding, and humanitarian values above personal biases. UNICEF’s mission is to uphold the rights and dignity of all children, regardless of political affiliations or geographic boundaries. We rely on ambassadors to be torchbearers of these principles, fostering inclusive dialogue and meaningful support,” the petition statement reads.
The document calls on the organization to take immediate structural measures: “decisive action and remove Pink as an ambassador. This move would reaffirm UNICEF’s commitment to impartiality and its dedication to all children, irrespective of nationality or heritage.”
The fallout over the tour comments triggered a domino effect across Sheeran’s concert production. Following Macklemore’s removal from the lineup, Sheeran’s remaining opening acts as well as his longtime backing band withdrew from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore and the Palestinian cause.
Sheeran has since broken his silence regarding the lineup collapse onstage and in public statements, clarifying that the decision to drop Macklemore from the bill was made by external organizers rather than his personal call. Bardem’s public endorsement of the petition ensures the controversy will remain a focal point of ongoing industry debate.
