Jessica Sanchez just made history—and stole America’s heart—on the Season 20 finale of America’s Got Talent.
The Filipino-American powerhouse wowed the judges and millions of viewers throughout the competition, capping her run with a breathtaking final performance Tuesday night (U.S. time). When the votes were tallied on Wednesday, Sanchez, who is nine months pregnant, was named the grand winner, beating improv rapper Chris Turner and taking home the coveted $1 million prize.
“I’m sorry, I’m really emotional. This is amazing. Thank you so much America,” Sanchez said through happy tears after the big announcement.
Before host Terry Crews revealed the results, Sanchez once again delivered a stunning version of “Golden Hour,” accompanied by an aerial routine from Circa Marea.
Family members watching from backstage erupted with joy when her name was called. In a reaction video, her mother Edita beamed, saying, “I’m so very proud of her. That she is going after her dream again.”
The win adds to an already impressive résumé. A Chula Vista native, Sanchez first appeared on AGT Season 1, reaching the semi-finals. In 2012, she placed second on American Idol Season 11, then released her debut album Me, You & the Music and landed a guest spot on Glee.
Now, with an AGT title and a cool million dollars, Sanchez is set for her biggest chapter yet. Whether it’s new music or a world tour, America is ready for more of that unmistakable voice.
