Liev Schreiber, the Emmy-nominated star known for his role in Ray Donovan, experienced a health scare this past weekend that had fans and colleagues concerned. On Sunday, November 16, Schreiber reported a severe headache and promptly sought medical attention, according to TMZ. Acting with caution, his medical team advised him to be hospitalized for tests

Overnight, Schreiber underwent a series of evaluations in a New York City hospital. Details about his condition remain limited, but a representative confirmed to PEOPLE that “Out of an abundance of caution, Liev went into the hospital for testing and as of this afternoon, he has been cleared to return to work.

For fans familiar with Schreiber’s health history, this situation may evoke memories of a previous incident in April 2024. While performing on Broadway in Doubt: A Parable, Schreiber suffered a migraine that triggered temporary amnesia. Speaking to Late Night with Seth Meyers, he recounted the terrifying moment: “I was in my dressing room and I had a terrible headache. I thought it was maybe a fast-food headache, but it felt a little stronger than that. I’m walking down the stairs and I’m thinking, ‘This is not normal. I don’t feel okay.’”

The episode escalated when he couldn’t remember his co-star Amy Ryan’s name and forgot his lines on stage. “I think, ‘Okay, I’ve had a stroke. This is it,’” Schreiber said. Thankfully, an MRI confirmed no brain bleed, and a neurologist diagnosed him with transient global amnesia (TGA), a rare condition characterized by sudden memory loss.

TGA can be triggered by migraines, physical exertion, stress, or sudden immersion in hot or cold water. While alarming, it typically resolves within 24 hours with no long-term effects.

This latest hospitalization appears to have been a precautionary measure, highlighting Schreiber’s commitment to his health and his fans’ well-being. As he recovers and returns to work, the entertainment world continues to watch over one of its most versatile and respected actors, wishing him a smooth and swift recovery.
