Musician Matt Bellamy has officially initiated legal proceedings to end his marriage to model Elle Evans. The 48-year-old Muse frontman filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, August 12, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the legal grounds for dissolving their seven-year marriage.
According to court filings obtained by legal outlets, the pair formally separated in mid-2025 following what Bellamy previously characterized as “really unexpected circumstances.” In the official petition, the date of separation is listed as “TBD.” The former couple, who originally tied the knot during a romantic seaside ceremony in Malibu back in August 2019, share two young children together: a 6-year-old daughter, Lovella, and a 2-year-old son, George.
The divorce filings reveal a brewing disagreement regarding parental custody. Bellamy is currently requesting sole legal and physical custody of their two children, alongside asking the court to establish spousal support for Evans in accordance with the terms laid out in their existing premarital agreement.
In a statement responding to the filing, Evans clarified her position on the matter, signaling that she intends to seek shared custody while reflecting on the breakdown of their union.
“Elle tells TMZ… she will fight for custody of their kids, and Matt made the marriage so ‘unbearable’ the divorce filing was ‘a long time coming.’”
The split marks the end of an eleven-year relationship for the pair, who first began dating in 2015 following Bellamy’s high-profile engagement to actress Kate Hudson, with whom he shares a 15-year-old son, Bingham. As legal proceedings move forward in Los Angeles, both parties appear focused on navigating the terms of their prenuptial agreement and establishing long-term custody arrangements for their children.
