Matty Healy and Gabbriette have officially tied the knot.
After nearly three years together and an engagement that captivated fans of music and fashion alike, the 1975 frontman and the model-musician exchanged vows on Saturday, July 18, during an intimate ceremony at Castillo del Lago, the storied Spanish Colonial Revival estate once owned by Madonna. Perched in the Hollywood Hills near the iconic Hollywood sign, the historic mansion provided a dramatic backdrop for a wedding that perfectly matched the couple’s effortlessly cool aesthetic.
Healy, 37, wore a timeless black tuxedo, while Gabbriette, 28, embraced classic bridal glamour in a striking white gown paired with a traditional veil. She completed the look with her signature dark hair styled half-up, half-down. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds shared a kiss at the altar before posing for photographs around the estate’s picturesque grounds.
Representatives for the couple confirmed the happy news in a statement to People.
“Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel were married yesterday at a private ceremony in Los Angeles, attended by their family and close friends.”
Although the celebration was intentionally intimate, the guest list reflected the couple’s close ties to the music and fashion worlds.
Among those in attendance were Charli XCX and her husband, George Daniel—Healy’s bandmate in The 1975—along with Anastasia Karanikolaou, Fai Khadra, Alex Consani, Devon Lee Carlson and fiancé Duke Nicholson, Sydney Lynn Carlson, Tyrell Hampton, Alex O’Connor and Quenlin Blackwell.
The wedding capped off several days of celebrations leading into the big event.
Healy recently enjoyed a bachelor party in Malibu that felt uniquely on-brand. According to Rolling Stone UK, the musician joined The 9075, a tribute band dedicated to The 1975, onstage to perform the band’s hit “The Sound.” Photos from the event quickly circulated online, including one showing members of the tribute act dressed as different eras of Healy’s career. The groom even sported a bright ginger wig as a playful callback to his appearance in “Give Yourself a Try.”
Back in May, Healy’s mother, television personality Denise Welch, revealed that the ceremony was planned for July. Speaking on Tom’s Hirschsprung’s Podcast, she admitted she was eagerly counting down to the day.
Her enthusiasm wasn’t surprising.
Shortly after the couple announced their engagement in 2024, Welch made no secret of how happy she was to welcome Gabbriette into the family.
Appearing on Loose Women, she shared:
“I couldn’t be more thrilled. We couldn’t be happier — she is everything I would want in a daughter-in-law.”
Gabbriette, meanwhile, approached wedding planning with the same dry humor that has made her one of fashion’s most distinctive personalities.
Earlier this year, while appearing in a Jimmy Choo bridal campaign, she offered a few tongue-in-cheek rules for future brides. “This is a celebration, not a performance,” she advised.
She followed that with another reminder that perfectly captured her personality: “Remember, this is about love — and looking hot — but mainly about love.”
Wedding planning wasn’t always something she envisioned herself diving into. When speaking with People last year, she admitted: “[It may] take a while because I’m bad at planning stuff,”
Later, she joked that couples should divide responsibilities strategically. “Let your fiancé think that they’re helping. They pick the music, you pick everything else. Democracy!” she said with a laugh.
Their love story dates back to 2023, when the pair first sparked dating rumors after being spotted kissing in New York City.
Although friends had reportedly tried introducing them for years, timing finally worked in their favor.
Speaking with Homme Girls, Gabbriette recalled the beginning of their relationship simply:
“He came to L.A. and we’ve been in love ever since.”
Less than a year later, Healy proposed, and Gabbriette announced the engagement with one of the internet’s most memorable captions.
Sharing a photo of her black diamond engagement ring after attending Charli XCX’s Brat show in Brooklyn, she wrote:
“MARRYING THE 1975 IS VERY BRAT.”
The phrase immediately went viral, perfectly capturing both the couple’s sense of humor and their close friendship with Charli XCX, whose connection to both musicians played an unexpected role in bringing them together years earlier.
Their relationship has unfolded largely on their own terms ever since.
