Meghan Markle is stepping back into the spotlight — this time, on set.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, is officially returning to acting with a role in the upcoming Amazon MGM movie Close Personal Friends, according to People. The project marks her first scripted role since she left Suits in 2018 — and this time, she’s reportedly playing herself.
“Meghan was on the set today,” a source told People. “She has a small part. She seemed very relaxed and happy. She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth.”
The film, which began shooting in Pasadena, California, also stars Lily Collins and Brie Larson, with supporting performances from Jack Quaid and Henry Golding. Written by Love, Simon’s Isaac Aptaker, Close Personal Friends centers on “one couple that meets and befriends a celebrity couple while on a trip to Santa Barbara.”
It’s a fitting return for Meghan, who left her successful Hollywood career behind when she married Prince Harry in 2018. Since then, she’s built a new life balancing motherhood, advocacy, and entrepreneurship — from launching the couple’s Archewell Foundation to signing major media deals.
Still, fans have always wondered if Meghan might one day return to her first love: acting. And while this cameo-sized role might not mark a full Hollywood comeback, it’s a clear signal she’s keeping her creative spark alive.
Her role in Close Personal Friends is said to be brief, but it’s already stirring excitement across the entertainment world. After all, it’s been seven years since Meghan last graced the small screen as Suits’ quick-witted paralegal Rachel Zane — a role that made her a fan favorite long before royal titles entered the picture.
With the Duchess joining a cast that blends sharp wit and heartfelt storytelling, Close Personal Friends seems like the perfect fit for her re-entry. Light, character-driven, and subtly meta — it’s a story about connection, boundaries, and the blurry line between fame and friendship.
Though she’s stayed mostly behind the camera since relocating to California, Meghan’s creative influence has remained strong. Whether through her podcast Archetypes, her philanthropic work, or her upcoming lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard, her focus has always been on authenticity and connection.
Now, with this new project, Meghan’s bringing that same energy back to the screen — proving that stepping back doesn’t mean stepping away forever.
