Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm married Australian model Chris Dingwall on Saturday, July 18, during an intimate ceremony in Cumbria, England, celebrating a love story that neither of them expected would begin with a dating app.
According to Vogue, the couple exchanged vows at The Country House, a picturesque lakeside property where family and close friends gathered for what Mel C later described as a wedding that was “quite low-key. Relaxed, romantic and chic.”
For longtime Spice Girls fans, one detail immediately stood out.
Mel C walked down the aisle wearing a custom wedding gown designed by fellow Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, turning decades of friendship into one of the day’s most meaningful personal touches.
The collaboration actually began months earlier.
Before the English celebration, Mel C and Dingwall quietly completed a legal ceremony in Australia, where Beckham unexpectedly came to the rescue after learning her friend was running out of time to alter a dress she’d purchased.
Victoria recalled the moment to Vogue.
“I was actually having dinner with Melanie and asked her what she was up to,” Beckham said. “She very casually told me she was leaving for Australia in two days and getting married! When I asked what she was wearing, she mentioned she had actually ordered one of my dresses but that it didn’t quite fit, and she didn’t have time to get it altered before leaving. I happened to have that exact dress in my own wardrobe and offered to lend it to her.”
For Mel C, the gesture meant everything. She described borrowing Beckham’s dress as “the best, hands down.”
Reflecting on her longtime friend’s work, she explained: “There’s just something about her clothes … they have a real simplicity, especially the slip dresses. They’re really feminine, but in a way that feels comfortable, and very me.”
She continued: “Victoria’s dress was my something borrowed. It was very special, having her there.”
Once Beckham learned the couple planned a larger English ceremony, she immediately offered to create something entirely new. “I obviously offered to make her dream dress,” Beckham said.
Mel C couldn’t have been happier. “Victoria was so excited about being able to do this for me, and having her and Scarlet there … every step of the way has been very special,” she explained. “Plus, I just love her clothes.”
The celebration reunited much of the Spice Girls family, with Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell-Horner and Mel B all attending the ceremony to celebrate alongside their longtime bandmate.
For Mel C, marriage represents a chapter she once wasn’t sure would ever happen.
Speaking candidly to Vogue, she admitted: “I wasn’t a girl who grew up dreaming about her dress. I was always just focused on my career — I think even relationships took a backseat for me because I’ve been so driven to do what I love, which is performing. … I’d gotten to the point in my life where I just didn’t think it was going to be a part of my story.”
Her story with Dingwall began in an unexpectedly modern way.
Appearing on the Life Uncut podcast last year, Mel C revealed the pair first matched on the exclusive dating app Raya after she decided she wanted something completely different from previous relationships.
“I’m on the app, and in my head I’m like, ‘You know what? I’m done. I’m done with this dude. I want someone who is all the things that he wasn’t and the complete opposite. And I don’t want somebody under my feet,’ you know?” she recalled.
Distance didn’t discourage her. “I’m like, ‘Well, he’s absolutely not under my feet,’” she joked, noting that Dingwall was living in Sydney while she was in London. “But I did have a DJ tour planned, and I thought, ‘Well, he’s really cute. This is worth pursuing.’”
The romance steadily grew, though the couple kept many milestones private—including their engagement.
According to Vogue, Dingwall proposed during a romantic getaway in Mallorca last summer after surprising Mel C with a candlelit room following an elaborate tasting menu dinner.
Recalling the proposal, she said: “We were staying in a beautiful hotel, and we’d had the tasting menu, with the wine pairing, so this meal was taking forever.”
She laughed, remembering that “Even the staff were like, ‘You’re nearly there!’ ”
When they finally returned to their suite, she found the room glowing with candlelight.
“It was beautiful, just the two of us,” she said. “He couldn’t believe I was surprised, but I was floored.”
From a chance Raya match to a lakeside English wedding surrounded by lifelong friends, Mel C’s newest chapter is one she once thought might never arrive—and one she now gets to celebrate on her own terms.
