Miley Cyrus is officially headed down the aisle again — and this time, she didn’t see it coming.

The 33-year-old superstar is engaged to her longtime boyfriend, drummer Maxx Morando. Multiple outlets (including People) confirm that the couple is set to tie the knot. Fans started buzzing earlier this week when Miley walked a red carpet with a very noticeable sparkler on that finger, instantly sending the internet into detective mode.

Soon after, Page Six confirmed the diamond’s origin story, reporting that the ring was designed by Jacquie Aiche. It features a cushion-cut stone set on a simple 14-karat gold band — a style Miley has now proudly shown off.

Miley and Maxx first sparked dating rumors back in November 2021 after being spotted together at Gucci’s Love Parade runway show. He later appeared at her New Year’s Eve Party in Miami, and by early 2022, the pair had made things official.

For Miley, this marks her second marriage. She and Liam Hemsworth were together for a decade, marrying in December 2018 before separating the following August. Their divorce was finalized in January 2020.

During a December 3 appearance on Good Morning America, she opened up about the sweet (and surprisingly stealthy) proposal that happened during a recent trip to Japan.

“I am not easy to surprise,” Miley admitted. “I love to control every situation. I had completely surrendered. I’m telling you, I was so, so, so surprised.”

She revealed she’d never visited Japan before, explaining that she wanted a place in the world that could feel personally meaningful and untouched by her career or past relationships. “I wanted one place in the world that could be my special place that I saved for me,” she shared. The moment Maxx got down on one knee, that wish became reality.

When she flashed the ring, Miley kept it simple: “He did good!”

The engagement comes at a major high point in her life. With the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash—for which Miley wrote “Dream as One”—she feels like everything is clicking into place at once.

“It’s very obvious the amount of drastic growth I’ve had in those four years,” she said, reflecting on both her relationship and personal evolution. “You want to dream the biggest you can and you want to have someone by your side who always tells you you can do it.”

She also admitted she’s impressed by her and Maxx’s ability to keep this milestone quiet until they were ready. “Our privacy and us kind of keeping it small has been something that I’ve been astounded that I’ve actually been able to have, and being able to kind of have more choice,” she told People on December 2. “It’s also being older, being more protective of what I’m open to sharing.”

And of course, Miley’s never been shy about how she feels about her fiancé. As she told The Cut in September: “I ended up with a person who means a lot to me and treats me really well and respects me. My man’s hot as hell too.”

Looks like Miley’s got her fairy-tale moment — on her own terms.
