The stage is set for one of the most unpredictable nights in pop music as MTV officially unveils the nominations for the 2026 Video Music Awards. Leading this year’s stacked roster of global hitmakers is the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna, who proves once again that her reign over music culture remains absolute. The icon scored a staggering 11 nominations on the strength of her cinematic project Confessions II — The Film, sweeping major categories including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year for her chart-topping single “Bring Your Love.”

Hot on her heels is Taylor Swift, who snagged nine nominations of her own. Swift’s hauntingly visual masterpiece, “The Fate of Ophelia,” earned mentions across heavy-hitting categories like Video of the Year, Best Pop, and Best Cinematography, while also landing Swift a coveted spot alongside Madonna in the Artist of the Year race.

The rest of the ballot reads like a playlist of the defining sounds of the decade. Pop powerhouses Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter locked in seven nominations each, while Bruno Mars, PinkPantheress, and Zara Larsson earned five mentions apiece. K-pop icon Lisa secured four nominations, with global superstars Shakira and Tate McRae rounding out the major multi-nominees with three nods each.

Fans won’t have to wait long to see how the evening unfolds. The 2026 VMAs will broadcast live from Los Angeles on Sunday, September 27 at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT on CBS, featuring a simultaneous broadcast on MTV and a global live stream on Paramount+.

Behind the scenes, the high-octane production is being spearheaded by Gunpowder & Sky, with Van Toffler serving as producer. A seasoned executive team including Den of Thieves’ Jesse Ignjatovic, Barbara Bialkowski, and Bruce Gillmer are executive producing alongside Barry Barclay and Floris Bauer, with Melanie Block as co-executive producer and Gary Lanvy as co-producer. With a lineup that balances living legends against modern chart-toppers, the 2026 ceremony promises a night of unforgettable visual history.
