After months of uncertainty, legal battles and an extended hiatus, NewJeans is officially preparing to make music together again.

The chart-topping K-pop group has announced a new campaign titled “2026 Summer of NewJeans,” signaling the beginning of a long-awaited comeback that many fans weren’t sure would happen. The announcement marks an important turning point following one of the most closely watched disputes in the K-pop industry, as the remaining members—Minji, Hanni, Haerin and Hyein—begin looking ahead to a new chapter.

The comeback arrives after a turbulent period that dramatically reshaped the group’s future.

Former member Danielle departed the group after terminating her contract with ADOR amid an ongoing damages lawsuit filed by the company. Her exit followed months of escalating tension surrounding the group’s relationship with its agency, leaving fans wondering whether NewJeans would ever return together.

The conflict first became public toward the end of 2024, when the members held an emergency press conference announcing their intention to leave ADOR.

During that appearance, the members alleged a breakdown of trust with the label, claiming they had experienced mistreatment and that both ADOR and its parent company, HYBE, had failed to protect them. They also expressed concerns about what they described as retaliation against former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin.

ADOR and HYBE have disputed many of the members’ allegations.

The dispute quickly evolved into one of the industry’s biggest legal stories.

For a brief period, the members promoted under the name NJZ while attempting to continue activities independently. However, that effort was interrupted when a South Korean court granted ADOR’s request for an injunction restricting the members from pursuing independent entertainment activities while litigation over their exclusive contracts continued.

The legal proceedings ultimately led to an extended hiatus, leaving NewJeans’ future in question.

Throughout that difficult period, the members continued expressing hope that their story wasn’t over.

Earlier this year, Danielle reflected on the emotional journey during a livestream.

“I fought till the end to be with my fellow members. There always is NewJeans in one side of my mind. This is not the end but the beginning.”

Her words now feel especially significant.

While Danielle will not be part of the upcoming comeback, the remaining members appear ready to move forward together under the NewJeans name, focusing once again on music after spending much of the past year navigating courtrooms instead of recording studios.

ADOR has also shared new details about how preparations have been unfolding behind the scenes.

According to the label, the members traveled to Copenhagen, Denmark, in April 2026 to begin developing the group’s next musical era.

In a statement shared through The Chosun Daily, ADOR explained:

“The visit to Copenhagen…was part of the preproduction process to capture NewJeans’ new musical narrative.”

The agency also emphasized that the members’ well-being remains a priority during the comeback process.

“The members are currently preparing for activities according to schedules optimized for their individual conditions.”

Although specific details about new music, release dates or promotional activities have yet to be announced, the campaign itself offers the clearest indication yet that NewJeans is preparing to step back into the spotlight.

The group has spent the past several years redefining what modern K-pop can sound and look like, earning international acclaim for songs including “Attention,” “Hype Boy,” “Ditto,” “OMG” and “Super Shy.” Their blend of understated production, effortless performances and youthful storytelling quickly made them one of the industry’s biggest breakout acts.

Now, after a period defined less by chart success than by legal headlines, attention is shifting back to the music itself.
