Mingus Reedus, the 25-year-old son of The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus and supermodel Helena Christensen, has been arrested in New York City on domestic assault charges.

The arrest happened on Saturday morning (August 23), when police responded to a call involving a woman allegedly threatening to take pills and commit suicide at a Manhattan residence, according to Page Six.

When officers arrived, Mingus was accused of assaulting the woman. A police source claimed that he “punched a female victim in the leg, causing redness, and then choked her and slammed her to the ground.”

Photos obtained by the New York Post showed Mingus being taken into custody, dressed in a black shirt and green shorts as he was escorted into the back of a police car.

Initially, he was charged with one count of assault and one count of criminal obstruction of breathing. However, the case quickly escalated. People reports that prosecutors later added three more charges: recklessly causing physical injury, aggravated harassment, and harassment. Mingus entered a not guilty plea to all five charges.

He is scheduled to appear back in court on Tuesday (August 26).

Mingus’ attorney, Priya Chaudhry—who has also represented high-profile clients like Jen Shah and Jonathan Majors—issued a firm statement defending her client.

“Despite what the prosecutor said in court — which is not evidence — they [the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office] chose to charge Mingus with misdemeanors or less. This speaks volumes, and much louder than the unsupported prosecutor’s in-court comments,” Chaudhry said.

She also emphasized that Mingus is being treated as innocent until proven guilty, adding: “Equally important, the judge released Mingus on his own recognizance, with neither bail nor supervision. That significant judicial decision amplifies the volume. Mingus is presumed innocent and has pled not guilty.”

This isn’t the first time Mingus has faced legal trouble. Back in September 2021, he was arrested in New York City for allegedly assaulting a woman.

While the case is still unfolding, the Reedus family has yet to make a public comment.
